“Since I got my hands on a unit of the Dyson Airstrait a few months ago, I have used it to style my hair on every single wash day ever since. This is an addition to my routine that really surprised me—not only does it work, but the results are fantastic! If you’re not familiar, essentially, this tool is a hairdryer that dries and straightens your hair at the same time.

“My hair is extremely bleach-damaged and processed, so leaving it to airdry is a major no-no. Before I had the Airstrait, I was relying on my Dyson Supersonic. Don’t get me wrong—it does do a fabulous job of drying my hair quickly. But, if I really wanted to get it smooth I would usually need to use a brush to blow out my lengths and go over it with a straightener or curler once it was fully dry to get my hair to look ‘done’. The Dyson Airstrait has completely streamlined my routine, consolidating my drying and styling routine into one convenient step.

“I can now get my full head of hair done in under 20 minutes—a crazy cut down from my previous hour-long hair routine! Better yet, my hair consistently ends up looking fabulously sleek with no excess heat damage or frizz. The one thing I will say is that the Airstrait is heavy, but if you just view it as a way to incorporate an arm workout into your beauty routine, it’s actually kind of a plus. I’m not sure how it performs on curly textures, but I can say that it does an excellent job on my wavy hair—just make sure that you blowdry your roots independently as it’s a little tricky to manoeuvre it around that area.” — Redzhanna Jazmin, Beauty Editor

Foreo Luna 4 Plus, RM2,440

beauty gadget reviews

“I’ve been a loyal fan of Foreo’s Luna series for years, and each update has just continued to make it even more of an essential in my beauty routine. The new Luna 4 Plus is no exception. It’s definitely not your average cleansing brush, that’s for sure! Equipped with clinical-grade anti-ageing treatments like microcurrent and near-infrared LED light therapy—the Luna 4 Plus works to cleanse your skin and restore your skin’s vitality in one step.

“It’s an essential part of my evening cleansing routine—working to deep cleanse, exfoliate, plump and firm the skin all at once. On a slower night, I also like to use the many guided treatments on the Foreo app to treat myself to a mini-facial. I’ve found that with consistent use, I no longer struggle with dry patches and dullness and I can say that it’s 100 per cent thanks to this nifty little device. Plus, I love that it’s so portable—rather than having to pack 8,000 cleansers, scrubs and serums when I travel, all I need is this compact little tool to help me keep my skin in check.” — Redzhanna Jazmin, Beauty Editor

Ulike ReGlow LED Face Mask, RM2,199

A post shared by Ulike Malaysia (@ulike.malaysia)

“I’ve used a few at-home LED masks in my time, and this is by far the most thoughtfully designed. Firstly, it is extremely easy to use, with four modes—anti-acne, brightening, firming and rejuvenation—to treat your skin. It’s a lovely 10-minute, pre-bedtime routine that has worked wonders in improving my skin.

“Secondly, it’s extremely comfortable to wear. Not only does it come with two straps—one that goes from ear to ear, and one that secures the mask in place over your crown—but it is also cushioned around the eye area and on the straps to ensure maximum comfort and protection. While the research around at-home LED masks is limited, I will say that, placebo or not, I’ve really liked the way my skin has been looking since I started using this mask regularly for my acne.

“For a start, my breakouts seem to be a lot more under control. I haven’t really made any drastic changes to my diet or skincare routine, so I feel like this mask’s anti-acne treatment is actually putting in the work and clearing my skin as promised. Either way, I’m excited to start experimenting more with the other three functions. Now that I’ve seen results with the first mode I can’t help but wonder how else my skin will change and improve with consistent use.” — Redzhanna Jazmin, Beauty Editor

Dr Dennis Gross DRx Spectralite Lipware Pro LED Device, RM750

“Is this a product I would say everyone needs? Well, no. But, if you’ve been struggling with advanced wrinkling and creasing around your lip area and it’s something that you’re hoping to improve on, there’s no harm in investing in this tool. FDA-cleared and clinically proven, this LED-powered lip device is fitted with 56 LED red lights to target the full lip area. Essentially, the red LED works to target the visible signs of ageing like fine lines, wrinkles and creases by boosting collagen production and improving circulation.

“Personally, I thought it was really simple to use and, when paired with the DermInfusions Plump and Repair Lip Treatment, it made my lips look delightfully juicy. Admittedly, I’m probably not the best test subject given that I’ve yet to see significant wrinkling on my lip area as is. But, that being said, if you’re looking out for ways to smooth your pout, this is a fun device to try.” — Redzhanna Jazmin, Beauty Editor
