#BackstageBeauty: M.A.C Cosmetics for Joe Chia Episode 02

In the words of M.A.C Cosmetics’s event artist Ash Chong, real, raw beauty is trending more than ever this time. We sneaked a peek backstage at Joe Chia Episode 02 to find out what the professional makeup brand had in line for the beauty look at the show. With seven makeup artists working their craft on models for the night, Chong reiterates the importance of the products his team have used: “These products are ideal for runway to reality looks because it’s great to use for everyday wear.”

Here’s a breakdown of the beauty look of the night, as explained by Ash Chong:

1) The makeup of the night was inspired by the LED light effects incorporated in Joe Chia’s presentation. “The AW16 collection trends for both men and women are quite similar, so you can see that both male and female models tonight will be sporting the same makeup. This theme is also in line with Joe’s gender-fluid silhouettes in his new collection.”

2) The skin was kept clean and simple for it to be the perfect canvas. “We used our Strobe Cream which is a hydrating lotion that has pearlized pigments and iridesent particles. Upon application, it gives a lovely brightening effect that reflects the light on the skin even if the lighting is dim. This Strobe Cream is my personal favourite as it’s great to mix with foundation for a real-skin effect.”

“For a flawless effect, we used M.A.C Studio Face and Body Foundation which is a great product because it’s water-based and extremely lightweight. It’s buildable too so its coverage is excellent. You can apply this daily for a dewy, natural effect on your skin. I also used the Pro Longwear Concealer because it has excellent coverage too. Once that is done, translucent powder is added to the T-zone to set the makeup and prevent shine.

3) The eyes were kept fuss-free, save for a statement silver streak across the lids. “I used Silver Pigments to create the line and we add on 3D Silver Glitter on it. Under the dim lights you’d still see the glitter effect. The eyes are accentuated with mascara only—it’s really less is more with this look. The eyebrows for the female models have been brushed with the Pro Longwear Concealer using a mascara wand to give it a lighter tone.

4) “The colour of the nails is similar to the eyes with a silver iridescent finish, echoing the same theme throughout the beauty look. We used M.A.C Studio Nail Lacquer in Moonday from the M.A.C Future collection.”
