Breast Cancer Awareness Month: 6 Ways to show your support in KL this October

Every October, countries across the world, including Malaysia, mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The objective—increase attention and support for early detection and treatment as well as palliative care. Thousands of organisations all around the world highlight the importance of awareness through education and research.

Here in Malaysia, National Cancer Council Malaysia (MAKNA), National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM), and Breast Cancer Welfare Awareness Malaysia (BCWA) are just some of the parties involved in support of the collective cause. Find out how you can show your support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month from the roundup below:

1. Pink Afternoon Tea at Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Collaborating with local jewellery brand, Bowerhaus, Shangri-La Hotel KL aims to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA) with the Pink Afternoon Tea menu. Available at Lobby Lounge, Chef Roberto Hernandez has curated a menu that includes treats such as Seared Pepper Prawn on Filo Cup with Beetroot Mayo, Hot Smoked Salmon Napoleon with Chive Cream Cheese and Crepe and Parmesan Asparagus, Sun-dried Tomato and Horseradish Cream in Cone, Cherry White Chocolate Bavarois, Dark Chocolate Hazelnut Puff, Coconut Almond Financier, Raspberry Vanilla Tart, and Pink Chocolate Rose Macaron. Proceeds will be donated to BCWA.

2. Rose Pompon Afternoon Tea at The RuMa Hotel and Residences

Collaborating with Goutal Paris in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the hotel is presenting the special edition Rose Pompon Afternoon Tea. The Rose Pompon quickly became a cult favourite for the brand founded by perfumer Annick Goutal when it was launched in 2016. Inspired by the complexity of the fragrance, the menu includes treats such as Rose Caramelised Chocolate Macarons, Pink Guava Paris-brests, Strawberry Lychee Cakes, and Roasted Beetroot Tarts. 10 per cent of the sales of the Rose Pompon Afternoon Tea to the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA).

3. Pink October BeauTea Parlour Afternoon Tea at Beast by Big

In an effort to raise awareness and education on breast cancer, Beast by Big is presenting a special afternoon tea menu—with 20 per cent of proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA). The menu consists of delights such as Casis Chocolate Gateau, Raspberry Rose Cake, Portobello Mushroom Sando, Tiger Prawns Roll, Sakura Denbu Tamago Katsu Sandwich, Momotaro Tomatoes Tart, Pink Macaron, and Rhubarb and Berries Profiteroles. The menu includes two pots of tea or coffee.

4. Check out the Power of Pink Collection by Batik Boutique

The newest collection—created in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month—benefits the people who made them. The gift set includes a 100 per cent eco-dyed silk headband, 100 per cent eco-dyed silk eyemask, 100 per cent eco-dyed shibori silk wrapped wooden bangle,  and Mixed Berries and Vanilla scented candle. 10 percent from each gift set (in-store and online) will go to Breast Cancer Foundation Malaysia.

5. Participate in the Pink October campaign by MODA and Estee Lauder Companies

Benefitting the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia, Cancer Research Malaysia, College of Radiology Malaysia, and National Cancer Society of Malaysia, the Malaysian Official Designers Association (MODA) and Estee Lauder Companies are working together to release a range of pink merchandises. Available via vending machines in Avenue K, Sunway Pyramid, Mid Valley Megamall, and Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, the products are designed by 16 designers from MODA. There are a total of 20 different merchandises for you to pick from—including face masks, charms, scarves, and brooches. 80 per cent of sales will go to the four organisations.

6. Purchase a new collection of cheeky bags from Kantoi

In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Kantoi, the Malaysian not-for-profit brand, is back with a new collection of cheeky bags—to raise funds for Tung Shin Hospital. To deliver their fund-raising initiative, Kantoi will be collaborating with Ninja Van Malaysia.

This time, the new Kantoi collection features funny quotes such as “Feel For Bumps, Save Your Lumps”, “I Love You With All My Boobs”, and “Reach For The Stars… It Keeps Your Boobs From Sagging”. Proceeds will go to the Cancer Centre of Tung Shin Hospital to aid with the treatment of breast cancer for its underprivileged patients.

The box can be purchased through Kantoi’s Instagram page or at Journey Indoor Cycling Studio while the individual bags can be purchased through Kitsch.
