BURO Spotlights: Acne Studios’ Pink Granite Dream Arrives in Kuala Lumpur

Acne Studios is writing its next chapter in Southeast Asia with the opening of its first Malaysian boutique at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. The new address marks the Swedish fashion house’s third outpost in the region, following its Bangkok and Singapore stores.
Like its boutiques around the world, the freshly opened store translates Acne Studios’ aesthetic into a physical space beyond the collections. Designed by creative director Jonny Johansson alongside Swedish architecture studio Halleroed, a long-time collaborator of the house, the space plays with the contrasts that define the brand’s visual identity.
Pink granite anchors the interiors, softened by sculptural furniture from British designer Max Lamb, while stainless steel fixtures introduce an industrial edge. Bespoke lighting by French designer Benoit Lalloz completes the setting, casting a warm glow across the pink granite surfaces and sculptural furnishings. The interplay of stone, steel and form reflects the tension between simplicity and experimentation that has long defined Acne Studios’ approach to design.
Beyond the architecture, the store houses Acne Studios’ latest ready-to-wear collections, footwear, leather goods and accessories, including signature pieces such as the Musubi bag and Camero line. The opening also sees the arrival of ‘Acne Paper Issue 21: Autoportrait’, released to celebrate 30 years of Acne Studios.
The special edition explores the creative community that has grown around the house since its founding in Stockholm in 1996, featuring self-portrait stories by Jordan Hemingway, Guinevere van Seenus, Malick Bodian and Katerina Jebb, alongside an archival fashion story photographed by Casper Sejersen and styled by George Krakowiak.
To commemorate the opening in Kuala Lumpur, Acne Studios has created a limited-edition T-shirt exclusive to the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur boutique. The Swedish label also celebrated its Malaysian debut with a launch party attended by Kuala Lumpur’s coolest names, including Nadhir Nasar, Alicia Amin, Red Hongyi and Jun Ong.
