A look inside ‘East Meets West’, where Schwarzkopf Professional and Shiseido Professional celebrated a shared vision of artistry in professional hair colour.
Hair colour is more than just a finishing touch—it is a form of self-expression, an artistic medium, and a reflection of culture. Exploring the beauty of these creative contrasts, Schwarzkopf Professional and Shiseido Professional recently came together for ‘East Meets West: The Hair Artistry Unleashed’, an exclusive hair showcase celebrating the innovation, craftsmanship, and artistry behind professional hair colour. Bringing together internationally renowned artists and regional talent on one stage, the event highlighted how two distinct creative philosophies can coexist in harmony while pushing the boundaries of hair artistry.
Alongside our Friends of BURO—Nikki, Khesyinii, Deanna, and Tabitha—we were invited to witness an inspiring evening at Idea Live Arena where colour, creativity, and technical mastery took centre stage. More than a conventional hair show, ‘East Meets West’ offered an immersive journey through contrasting yet complementary perspectives of Eastern and Western beauty, demonstrating how different approaches can spark fresh creative possibilities within the professional hair industry.
The evening opened with a welcome address by Richard Gan, General Manager of Henkel Consumer Brands Malaysia, Singapore & Expansion Markets. “We are proud to bring together Schwarzkopf Professional and Shiseido Professional under one stage, united by a shared passion for creativity and innovation. As the Authority in Hair and a brand that believes in awakening beauty from within, ‘East Meets West’ reflects our commitment to empowering hairdressers, inspiring artistry, and elevating professional hair beauty across the region,” says Richard.
From there, guests were guided through ‘The Color Spectrum’, which began with the serenity of Japanese-inspired tones, defined by icy blues and soft whites. This gradually transitioned into balanced, neutral shades before culminating in warm, expressive hues of red, amber and copper, echoing the bold creativity often associated with European artistry. The progression captured the idea that colour exists in constant motion, shaped by interpretation and influence.
Representing the West, colourist Arjan Bevers brought Schwarzkopf Professional’s IGORA portfolio to life through bold, expressive creations defined by intensity and experimentation. In contrast, Takashi Kikuchi of Shiseido Professional showcased the PRIMIENCE and ULTIST ranges through a more restrained lens, focusing on translucency, balance, and technical execution rooted in Japanese aesthetics. While their approaches differed, both artists converged on a shared idea: hair as a powerful medium for storytelling and transformation.
Complementing the international showcase, eight Artistic Ambassadors from Malaysia and Singapore presented their own interpretations of the East Meets West theme. Representing Schwarzkopf Professional were Sky Ming Khai (H Art Concept), Jimmy Cheng (JMC Hair Studio), Keith Lui (Hair Emporium), and Cejay (Hairstuff), while Shiseido Professional was represented by Edison Lim (E Avenue Hair), Nick Koh (Signature Hair), Daviv Goh (D Hair Park), and Kason Kiu (Kiu Hair Gallery).
Throughout the evening, our Friends of BURO experienced the showcase up close, taking in each transformation as models revealed looks ranging from subtle tonal shifts to expressive colour works. Beyond the runway, what stood out was the precision behind each creation—the seamless execution that brought each artistic vision to life in real time. As the final looks took their bow, ‘East Meets West’ closed on a note of creative convergence, where distinct techniques and interpretations came together within a single visual language.
