Exclusive: 10 Minutes with Park Seo Jun and Won Ji An in Seoul
Love lost and love gained
There’s a reason why romance K-dramas have all of us in a chokehold. The yearning, the cliched yet heart-fluttering moments, the misunderstandings, the climactic confession—South Korea just knows how to get us in our feels, whether it’s squealing into our pillows or ugly sobbing the night away.
One charming new Korean romance series that is set to bring us on that same emotional journey is Prime Video’s Surely Tomorrow. Starring South Korea’s leading man, Park Seo-jun and rising actress Won Ji-an, the series is poised to be a blend of heartfelt storytelling with a touch of nostalgia, capturing the bittersweet journey of love, loss, and second chances.

Following the intertwined lives of Lee Kyeong-do (Park Seo-jun) and Seo Ji-woo (Won Ji-an), Surely Tomorrow spans the pair’s tumultuous relationship in their 20s as they go from forlorn first loves to meeting each other again under unexpected circumstances—Kyeong-do, now a journalist covering a controversial scandal, and Ji-woo, the wife of the man at the centre of it. Against the backdrop of public scrutiny and personal history, their story unfolds into a surprising third chapter.

In late October, we had the chance to fly to Seoul, South Korea, to meet the show’s leading couple in person and find out why Surely Tomorrow’s story is one to watch. Ahead, discover what Park Seo-jun and Won Ji-had to say about their characters, how their love story will resonate with audiences, and more.
There are many romance K-dramas out there, but what makes Surely Tomorrow‘s love story different or unique?
Park Seo-jun: As far as I feel, I believe that this is a love story that’s closer to all of us. And what I mean by that is it will be more relatable to the general audience. I think the story unfolds in a way that’s very close to our daily lives, so I would say that’s what sets our show apart.

Won Ji-an: That’s very true. As Seo-jun said, this is a love story that’s very close to our daily lives, and I think because of that, both a happy ending and a sad ending really fit the story, no matter which way it goes. I think that’s probably what makes our drama series a little bit different.
What do you love and connect with most about your characters? And conversely, what do you find the most challenging about them?
PSJ: I actually had a lot of things that I could really relate to my character. Our drama series tells the story you know, it almost alternates between the past and present of your late 20s.
And I have to say, there wasn’t anything that I felt like was challenging in particular for me to relate to because I related to so much of it.

WJA: The thing that I related to the most and felt most familiar with in my character is, very much like myself, when my character finds someone that she can rely on, she becomes fully dependent on that person. And at first, I didn’t really like that about me because I felt like it was a sign of weakness. But meeting this character Ji-woo, I was very happy to see that it was something that we both shared, and something that I could relate to.

What was challenging was that my character was raised in a family and with a background that’s very different to mine; it was something I had to research and study. I had to look up articles and find a lot of information about it to understand, because she comes from a very rich and well-known household and an apparel brand she had always been exposed to the public. So that was something that I had to actively study.

How did you build trust between each other to portray your love story?
PSJ: We fought a lot! [laughs] We tried to have a lot of conversations together, not just about our series that we’re working on, but also just about our daily lives to get to know each other better. And I think because we are working on Surely Tomorrow together, it made it a lot easier for us to talk about things. As time went on and we had more conversations, we got to know each other better in a very organic way.

Lastly, what are you excited for audiences to look forward to in this drama?
WJA: This is a story that is told across a long span of time and in a very detailed manner. It’s a story that’s very grounded and close to our daily lives as well. So I hope that you will enjoy the story.
