The AMG sector saw the launch of not one but two major new additions: the second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4Matic Coupé and the latest Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E Performance. Meanwhile, a major breakthrough in its electric-powered lineup arrived in the form of the all-new Mercedes Benz G 580 with EQ Technology. While these three cars are distinctly different from each other, they all carry the same stature and DNA that Mercedes-Benz is known for. Ahead, we give you a quick rundown of the three cars plus a closer look at all the details that make them unique.
MERCEDES-BENZ G 580 WITH EQ TECHNOLOGY
AN ELECTRIFYING WELCOME
The Rise of Electric has hit a high with the reveal of the all-new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology. Engineered to bring electric power into your off-road adventures, this car is equipped with individual-wheel drive. With a 473km range, four electric motors with a 432kW output, and 1,164 Nm of torque, you expect nothing but supreme on- and off-road rides. “Today, we’re not just launching a vehicle,” announced Amanda Zhang, CEO & President of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia. “We’re celebrating the evolution of the legend; a vehicle that has become an icon all over the world. It is one that represents power, presence, and character.”
POWER AND GRIT
The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology is ultimately powered by a 116 kWh lithium-ion battery that is cleverly integrated into the ladder frame. It offers a 473-kilometre range and supports AC charging of up to 11 kW plus up to 200 kW of DC fast charging. Three intelligent charging programmes—”Standard”, “Work”, and “Home”—also make the charging experience more efficient and tailored to your locational needs. As for its off-road functionalities, Mercedes-Benz did not skimp on the car’s performance. It has a redeveloped De Dion rear axle that features electric motors attached to the ladder frame, which ensures the camber does not change during compression. It also allows for a ground clearance of at least 250mm, a maximum fording depth of up 850mm, and stable driving on 35-degree sideward slopes.
TURNING HEADS
The car is protected by a lightweight yet highly rigid material mix that includes carbon, ensuring protection against corrosion. On top of that, its signature G-Turn also steals the spotlight, as it allows the vehicle to perform up to two on-the-spot turns. This feature allows drivers to rotate the vehicle as required to get out of less than ideal situations when driving off-road on unpaved or loose surfaces. Additionally, the G-Roar also brings the signature AMG V8 rumble to the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology.
A LOOKER, INSIDE AND OUT
Aesthetically, the car carries the signature G-Class elements such as round headlights and wing-mounted indicators. Its angular silhouette, 20-inch AMG 10-spoke light-allow wheels and other familiar details also makes it recognisable from a mile away. However, this all-new electric G 580 brings a new black-panel radiator grille, tinted lighting units, silver EQ badges on the wings, A-pillar cladding, a rectangular design box on the rear door, and an optional animated LED light band to its look. Additionally, the exclusive Edition One iteration is also available with three paint finishes and a blue trim strip. Interior-wise, the car is nothing but luxurious, with nappa leather upholstery, AMG carbon-fibre trims, a multifunction steering wheel, square-edged air vents, and ambient lighting. Passengers will also get to take in the Burmester 3D surround sound system and the MBUX High-End rear seat entertainment system.
The all-new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology and Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology Edition One are priced from RM958,888 and RM998,888 respectively (on the road, without insurance; including 10% ST and wallbox with installation) for Peninsular Malaysia. The prices are inclusive of a wallbox with installation. Customise your own Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology and find more information on the official website.

Its E Performance system also takes a leaf out of the F1 book. READY FOR ANYTHING
Eight AMG Dynamic Select driving programmes stand at the ready for you to take on any driving conditions. The modes are: Electric, Battery Hold, Comfort, Smoothness, Sport, “Sport+”, Race, and Individual.
