Interesting watchmaking fact: The oscillating organ of a traditional watch movement may be efficient, but it is beset by a recurrent weakness in precision, as its isochronism depends directly on the quantity of energy delivered by the barrel - the wide amplitude of the balance wheel gradually diminishes as the mainspring unwinds.
But in 2008, Girard-Perregaux revolutionised the foundations of timekeeping precision with the Constant Escapement. Protected by four invention patents, the cutting-edge mechanism supplies the balance wheel with constant force that never dwindles - it won the prestigious Aiguille d'Or award in the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève.
Fast forward almost a decade later, an upgraded model is here, with a design that is more technical and contemporary than ever - the Constant Escapement L.M.. The new masterpiece by Girard-Perregaux features the same innovative mechanism as its predecessor, that is a butterfly-wing silicon frame that is placed between the lever and the balance spring. Flexed at a point of instability, the silicon component is capable of storing a certain amount of energy that makes it possible to supply regular impulses to the oscillating organ, guaranteeing absolute precision.
Powered by the outstanding hand-winding Manufacture Girard-Perregaux movement, the new Constant Escapement L.M. boasts an exceptional one-week period of autonomy. It features a suave all-black dial in a 46mm case, and is available in three variants: pink gold, white gold and a carbon-titanium composite.
