2. Shhhbuuuleee

Shhh, this hidden rooftop bar and restaurant may only be weeks old, but it’s a matter of time before it’s the talk of the town. Perched on the top floor of RexKL, Shhhbuuuleee is the latest hangout spot in downtown KL for small plates, grilled items, and noodles as well as highballs, shochu, and natural wines, among other food and beverages. The premise’s ceiling and walls retain its old, rugged look, offering a quaint charm that mirrors the overall laid-back atmosphere of the cultural and creative hub it calls home.

Note: Shhhbuuuleee is currently open for bookings only, walk-ins are not allowed.

3. Anjo KL

Anjo is the latest modern European fine dining restaurant to grace Kuala Lumpur’s F&B scene, offering prix fixe menus specially curated by an experienced culinary team. Its majestic black and gold exteriors stand out in juxtaposition to its neighbours along Petaling Street, but that’s a mere glimpse of the opulence that awaits beyond its front doors. Think elaborately designed seats surrounding a live kitchen where diners will witness dishes being prepared before their eyes, plus a hidden bar (spoiler: it’s upstairs) lit by glistening chandeliers reflecting off dark marbled floors.

4. TenRyu

Fans of Japanese fare have a new restaurant in the heart of KL to check out for a Kappo-style fine dining experience—Tenryu. For the unfamiliar, ‘kappo’ simply means ‘to cut and cook’—referencing a less formal cuisine featuring a multi-course meal curated entirely by the chef in front of diners. MasterChef Otomo heads the kitchen at this 12-seater restaurant, showcasing a theatrical display of his culinary know-how with a signature flair for dry-aged fish.

Nikizoku is yet another addition to Petaling Street’s expanding list of restaurants, welcoming curious diners for a taste of modern Japanese cuisine. Forget the wooden interiors or the usual sushi and ramen offerings you’re used to; this restaurant and bar is where you’d go for original creations that are intriguing to the eye yet familiar to the palate. Expect to see salmon, eel, oyster, scallop, and other seafood options on the menu—appearing in colourful Japas-style plates and playful presentations.

KL doesn’t need another coffee and dessert place, but it’s getting one anyway—in the form of Hoh Coffee. Nestled in Solaris Mont Kiara, this understated café keeps its design ethos simple yet warm and welcoming—like its menu. Come for a cup of latte or filtered coffee with a slice of cheesecake and stay for the cosy, vintage-esque ambience. We hear hot items will be coming soon on the menu too.

Handbaked using only organic stone-milled flours, the breads here take at least three days to make from start to finish to ensure maximum flavour.
