5 Upcoming tech gadgets you’ll want to buy in Malaysia

Our tech radar has been pretty quiet in the past couple of weeks but the season for new gadgets must be picking up again—what more with Apple recently sending out media invites to what has been confirmed as the next iPhone launch event (mark the date: 12 September). But before that, a slew of other brands have unveiled a couple of shiny new products that will surely catch your eye.

1. Samsung Galaxy Note8

The new and improved Note is here and Samsung is calling it as next-level. Equipped with the well-liked S Pen, one of the biggest things to note about the new smartphone is its Infinity Display on the biggest screen ever on a Note device—and yet, one hand can hold it comfortably.

The brand also spared no expense in the photography department as it features two 12MP rear cameras (wide-angle and telephoto lenses)—a first in the market of smartphones—with Optical Image Stabilisation and rapid Auto Focus. And at the front is an 8MP Smart Auto Focus camera for sharp selfies and video chats. All in all, we see more things to love about the new Note8 than anything else as seen in the infographic below.

The Galaxy Note8 will be available beginning mid-September at a retail price of RM3,999 and is now open for pre-orders here

2. Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro

Consider it an upgraded GPS sports band with smart features to assist in maintaining a healthier lifestyle. From robust fitness tracking to nutrition and sleep monitoring, as well as motivational coaching as a lifestyle companion, the Gear Fit2 Pro aims to make everything easy.

For their new wearables (the next release being the Gear Sport in November), Samsung has even partnered with some of the leading names in tech and fitness such as Speedo (to help users seamlessly track their swimming activities); Under Armour (for access to activity, nutrition, sleep and fitness tracking functions on Under Armour’s fitness apps); and Spotify (use its Offline mode to listen to favourite tunes with or without a smartphone regardless of the location).

Available in Malaysia by end of September onwards.

3. Beats Studio3 Wireless headphones

Beats by Dr. Dre (Beats) is one of the world’s leading premium headphone brand and their latest offering will be a strong contender in the market of noise-cancelling headphones. Beats Studio3 Wireless is a smarter upgrade from its predecessor. Equipped with the new (and unique) Pure Adaptive Noise Canceling (Pure ANC) technology and Apple W1 chip, it uses advanced algorithms to continuously monitor your listening environment to best adapt and block out ambient noise. This includes evaluating and adjusting leakage caused by hair, glasses, different ear shapes and movement of your head.

Despite this sort of active calibration, the battery for the Beats Studio3 Wireless can last you up to 22 hours thanks to the Apple W1 chip. Turn it off and it can achieve up to 40 hours of nonstop playback in low power mode. Some of the other good points about these wireless headphones include seamless switching between Apple devices; Fast Fuel charging; a design that promotes premium ergonomic comfort; one-step Bluetooth connection to iPhone via proximity pairing; multi-function on-ear controls; and built-in microphone.

Its sophisticated design is further enhanced with a variety of colours to choose from: Matte Black, White, Blue and Red as well as special edition colours Porcelain Rose and Shadow Grey.

Available in Malaysia for RM1,460 at apple.com/my beginning 9 October.

4. Sony RXO ultra-compact camera

It’s light (110g), considerately small (59mm x 40.5mm x 29.8mm), tough (waterproof, shockproof, and crushproof) and packs a punch for both photo- and videography (equipped with a 1.0-type stacked 15.3 MP 6 Exmor RS CMOS image sensor, BIONZ X ® processor and a wide-angle ZEISS ® Tessar T* 24mm F4 fixed lens).

Use it as a standalone camera or as part of a multi-camera setup. Be it in the rain, underwater (a depth of up to 10 metres) or in sandy, dusty environments, the quality remains beautiful and in high resolution. Its capability is further enhanced with an Anti-Distortion Shutter of up to 1/32000 second and the ability to shoot at up to 16 fps so that fast moving objects are still accurately rendered.

Available in Malaysia from October 2017. For more info, visit the website.
