Name: Alessandro Michele
Occupation: Fashion designer and creative director of Gucci
How he got started: Alessandro forged his early career at Fendi where he was the Senior Accessories Designer before joining Gucci at its London-based design office (when Tom Ford was its creative director). During the 12 years-long period, he was mostly working behind the scenes as its Leather Goods Design Director in 2006 before being promoted to an associate to creative director Frida Giannini in 2011. He officially took the reign at Gucci in early 2015, and rapidly gave the brand a revenue growth of a record 50 percent as reported early this year. In his short two years with the Italian brand, Alessandro has also collaborated with numerous artiste such as GucciGhost, Coco Capitán and Unskilled Worker, and has combined womenswear and menswear collections into one co-ed show since the Autumn/Winter 2017 season.
Notable achievements: Only a year into his tenure at Gucci in 2015 and he has already won the International Fashion Designer of the Year award at the British Fashion Awards, consecutively for two years. Aside from that, he has also received the 2016 CFDA International Award, and the CNMI Recognition of Sustainability award by the Green Carpet Fashion Awards.
