7 Places to get the best ‘roti canai’ in Klang Valley
Spend your dough!
From ayam goreng to nasi lemak, our local mamak is ever bursting with various kinds of food offering. But a Malaysian favourite that can be eaten day or (mid)night is the humble roti canai. The perfect roti canai or roti pratha should have a crispy and flaky texture, while remaining soft and fluffy when eaten. We like to get a roti or two at the following places – what about you? Narrowing down the best roti canai in town is quite a task and we know this is not all there is, so do share where your favourite joint is.
Kanna Curry House @ Section 17, PJ
Aside from being one of the best places to indulge in banana leaf rice, Kanna's roti canai is also favoured by many for its flaky goodness. The roti canai is best eaten with a dollop of delicious fish curry and thick dhal gravy. While you're there, you should also try their signature side dishes—fried squid and fried chicken (this sells out pretty quickly!).

Lan Roti Canai
Lan Roti Canai has been operating their roti business in a food court for 39 years now. Many locals visit this hidden gem for its well-prepared roti canai(s)—crispy on the outside, but soft and fluffy on the inside. You best believe it's that good as there are long queues every morning; customers either have their roti canai for breakfast there, or do a takeaway by the dozen! Their kuah kacang dhal is also highly praised for its rich, thick consistency.

Mansion Tea Stall @ Masjid India, KL
This restaurant is loved by locals and tourists alike for their roti canai special—also known as roti banjir. The server will ladle the aromatic curry over the fluffy roti canai (cut into bite-sized pieces). The dish also comes with two half-boiled eggs and a spoonful of sambal on the side. To cap it off, order its famous teh ding dong, which is basically teh tarik, to wash your food down. Do take note that parking might be a problem in this area. Best to hop onto the LRT to Masjid Jamek station and it'll only be a 5-minute walk to the restaurant.

Restoran Al Fariz Maju @ Bandar Baru Bangi
This eatery has been gaining a lot of attention for its roti canai and naan cheese mozzarella (mamak stalls are getting so creative these days!). You can pair their almost grease-less, light and fluffy roti canai with the dhal gravy (so much goodness!). If you'd like to have more than the flatbread alone, you can also try their fried chicken and tandoori chicken.

It's been said that Sri Melur Jaya serves one of the best roti canai(s) in the whole of Klang Valley. So much so they even have a factory to produce their own roti canai dough! Its popularity isn't without merit. Based on a family recipe, the roti canai here has a light, crispiness that it falls apart easily, thus making for a pleasant eating experience.
