#BeatTheHeat: What to wear to stay cool in this heatwave

#1: Opt for natural fabric in light colours

Dark colours and synthetic fabrics such as polyester can retain heat. In this scorching weather, it is best to choose clothing made of natural fabric like cotton and linen—they’re much more breathable, and comfortable too.

#2: Keep ’em loose

A pair of shorts and a tank top may seem to be the best combination to lounge around in, but only if they are loose and flowing. As the heat seeps indoors and into your comfort zone, you’ll want air to flow over your skin (read: loose fitting clothes = cooler you).

#3: Cover up

Nope, you didn’t hear us wrong there. This may seem contradicting to the previous point, but folks who find themselves outdoors regularly in particular should abide by this as direct sunlight not only damages our skin, it raises our body temperature too.

Tip: Not a fan of long sleeves? Bring along a lightweight scarf with you when you’re out and about.

#4: Go down the sporty road

Even if working out is not in your routine, this is a good time to stock up on sports clothing made of performance fabric. They usually boast quick-dry and sweat-wicking properties—much needed features to help you stay cool in this heat.

On top of that, remember to always stay hydrated! Let’s hope that the unforgiving weather will cease soon. In the meantime, we’ll leave you with some of our top picks to #BeatTheHeat:
