Days after her 50th birthday, Stella Tennant has died at the age of 50. While the cause of death was not revealed, according to BBC, a police spokesman said that there were “no suspicious circumstances” surrounding her passing. “It is with great sadness we announce the sudden death of Stella Tennant on 22 December 2020. Stella was a wonderful woman and an inspiration to us all. She will be greatly missed,” a statement by her family reads.

The British supermodel was one of the fashion darlings in the ‘90s. Aside from walking in as many as 75 runway shows a season, one of the career highlights was her stint as a Chanel ambassador in the late ‘90s. Although she took a break from modelling not long after to focus on her family, during the 2012 London Olympic Games, she was one of the supermodel squad who participated in the closing ceremony. Her last runway appearance was during the Valentino Haute Couture SS20 show in January.

Saint Laurent unveils its Women’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection

Its choice of venue? The desert. While its Autumn/Winter 2020 collection back in February was filled with drama and latex, this season, the French fashion house is focusing on the exact opposite.

“I wanted to focus on the essence of things. I think it’s a sign of the times. But I didn’t want anything bleak or heavy. The desert, to me, symbolizes that yearn for serenity, open space, a slower rhythm. The clothes are also softer, the spirit of the collection is more gentle, stripped back,” creative director Anthony Vaccarello explains in a statement.

Presented via a film that was shot in a sand dune, the collection was filled with the brand’s version of ease, with a spotlight on silhouettes that are soft yet form-fitting. Aside from its signature jackets and leather separates, lounge-favourites such as bike shorts were one of the mainstays of the line-up, whether in the form of a bodysuit or dressed up with gilded tops and bralets.
