Fashion buzz: Chanel goes punk-chic for Cruise 2022, Miu Miu collaborates with Levi’s, and more
Chanel's Cruise 2022 show was a punk-chic affair
Presented at the Carrières de Lumières (Quarries of Light) in the South of France, Chanel’s Cruise 2022 collection was inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s close friendship with French director Jean Cocteau, who filmed the 1959 ‘Testament of Orpheus’ at the exact spot.
“Echoing the modernity of Cocteau’s film, I wanted something quite rock”, creative director Virginie Viard said in the show notes. As an homage to the simplicity, the precision and the poetry” of his work, the collection was clean and distinct, with a colour palette that consists of bright white and deep black. What lacked in colour was made up for in details—leather fringes, beads and sequins, feathers, and graphic prints amp up that glam-meets-punk ‘tude. The double-C lip piercing jewellery that lends a rebellious flair was the perfect finishing touch.
The Miu Miu x Levi’s collection is coming soon
Five months after the collaboration was announced, the Upcycled by Miu Miu x Levi’s collection’s launch date has been announced: May 24. Ahead of the release, the brand unveiled its campaign online which features actress Emma Corrin and models Lila Moss and Georgia Palmer. In the series of images, the ladies don the American brand’s denim pieces that have been given a Miu Miu update with its signature details and silhouettes, from pink beaded embellishment to puffy sleeves.
The collection will be available on Miu Miu’s website and select stores worldwide.
