Burberry defends title as most popular British brand on Instagram

For the second consecutive year, Burberry has been named the most popular British brand on Instagram.  The results are derived from a set of data released by a social media analytics firm, Iconosquare, which places the brand with its current count of 10.4 million followers above the likes of Topshop (9.2 million), Jimmy Choo (7.3 million), Asos (6.6 million), Alexander McQueen (5.3 million) and Stella McCartney (4.5 million).

In recent years Burberry has propelled themselves to the forefront of fashion’s digital revolution, as seen with its runway livestreams and pioneering adoption of the “see now, buy now” model. And steady growth in its social media presence proves the brand should keep an upward trend in years to come. “Burberry should be especially pleased with their efforts as they have topped our British brands on Instagram study for the second year running and boosted their follower count by over 2 million over 12 months,” offers Romain Ouzeau, chief executive officer of Iconosquare. But on a global scale, “British brands have a long way to go,” as the report notes. Nike (75.2 million), Victoria’s Secret (57.7 million), and Chanel (25 million) are amongst the names that top the international rankings.
