Derek Lam showed us a more free-spirited approach to his typical luxe sportswear aesthetic on the SS16 runway
Derek Lam's muse for this collection was non other than Nina Simone, a figure of both independence and femininity, which reflected in his designs with strong, wholesome silhouettes and rich sophistication.
A diverse collection that brims with depth, he included a few signature trench coats—timeless classics—alongside ribbed dresses, fringed numbers and lush fur stoles. We also loved the impeccably laced-up shoes that were paired with some of the looks.
The show started with classic intellectual, preppy looks, that slowly progressed to more complex and textured pairings, ending with luxe, billowy halter-style gowns that were perfectly evening-worthy.
