NYFW SS16: Bibhu Mohapatra

This season the muse of the collection was Annemarie Schwarzenbach, a Swiss photographer and journalist reputed for her menswear-influenced style. Instead of focusing on her androgynous style, which did not resonate with the brand’s feminine aesthetic, Mohapatra adopted elements of Bauhaus—an art school that Schwarzenbach aligned herself with, and merged them with his chic silhouettes and dash of sequins. As demonstrated in his cuts, prints and colour blocking techniques, Mohapatra has translated Bauhaus drawings into the modern and geometric designs of the collection, a core essence for the SS16 season.

Despite the overall conservative appeal of the collection (nothing above the knee), Mohapatra imbued a touch of risqué through his incorporation of thigh-high slits and sheer panels of tulle and silk organza
