MFW SS16: Sportmax

Easy, breezy and effortless was the name of the game at Sportmax’s S/S’16 runway show. The colourful, more adventurous younger sister of Max Mara has also been at sea (probably island-hopping and partying till the break of dawn) and has returned to shore refreshed and ready for some real clothes. But she hasn’t forgotten how inspired she was watching fishermen cast nets into the glistening blue ocean; the beautiful yellows and oranges of sunrises and sunsets, or the deep, oily black of the roiling sea at night. Chain link motifs printed on clothes were also reflected as fastenings and buckles on jackets and accessories. A mesmerising net print that looked almost like an optical illusion was used sparingly but with great success—we wish there had been more. Heavy platform sandals anchored the looks down for a collection that made one yearn for a beachside party with an endless supply of champagne.
