MFW SS16: Jil Sander

If creative director of Jil Sander, Rodolfo Paglialunga had planned to create functionally chic pieces that come with modern, clean silhouettes, no one could say he didn’t follow the mood board for Jil Sander S/S’16.

But there were hints of surprise here and there—side cutouts, knotted midriffs, elegantly slashed sleeves that still held its form perfectly, round-shouldered puffy long sleeves, all paired with tall sculpted cone-shaped hats. The execution and construction were simple, but it was evident that Paglialunga demonstrated thorough understanding of the way garments hold and fall together, working it to his benefit.

Materials and textures were kept austere and season-appropriate, with swathes of silk and wool crepe on shades of white, khaki, deep gray, black and a few pops of mustard and bright red.
