#WednesdayWishlist: A sparkling birthday treat
Dazzlers we can't resist
Cai Mei Khoo, Editor in Chief: Dress from Valentino Couture Fall 2016
Valentino creative duo Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri chose to reference William Shakespeare for their Couture Fall 2016 collection, which made the clothes even more poetic than usual. This sheer, shimmering gown with ruff collar is romantic yet throughly modern, and I love how Guido Palau framed the models' faces with thin, gold wire bands. Dior has since announced Chiuri as their new designer, their first ever female creative director - while I'm sad she's leaving Valentino and Piccioli behind, I can't wait to see her bring her magic touch to Dior.
Gwen Ong, Deputy Editor: Bulgari Divas’ Dream 'Bellezza' Necklace
I guess there’s a reason why diamonds are always associated with women and celebration. Well, I’m not going to wait for Mr Right to gift me the symbolic bling; I’m going to get my own. In fact, I’ll get the Bulgari Divas’ Dream ‘Bellezza’ High Jewellery necklace in a grand toast to myself. What a beauty! The white gold necklace is set with aquamarines, amethyst, blue sapphires and diamonds. All the shine around my décolletage-what more could I pamper myself with? A girl can dream right?
Jason Lim, Fashion Editor: Gucci's Lion burnished silver cuff
Jewellery? Not really my thing, particularly when there's too much daintiness and sparkle involved. As far as accessories are concerned, I tend to prefer solid, rough-hewn pieces with weight and a pair of roaring lion's heads at my wrist is just the ticket. The lions are meant to represent power and protection and with all the turmoil and senseless violence we find ourselves surrounded by, we could all do with a little bit of both. Beauty is just an added bonus.
Loh Wei Yeen, Fashion & Beauty Writer: Dolce & Gabbana embellished satin sandals
I'm not one who will fawn over anything that sparkles or glitters, with the exception of diamond rings of course. But if I had to wear something ultra eye-catching (not blinding) for a birthday getup, I'm willing to walk a mile in these Dolce & Gabbana sandals that's all business in the front and party at the back. A pair of seemingly simple black satin sandals that's fitted with an opulent crystal-encrusted filigree back that can complement every colour in my closet? I'm sold.
Rachel Au, Lifestyle Writer: My Dior ring in 18K pink gold and diamonds
While gems and jewels make for a bold statement, I prefer making fine ones instead when it comes to accessorising and this gorgeous My Dior ring does the trick for me. With an intricate golden mesh weaving through small diamonds, the design quietly yet beautifully emits an elegant aura; it'll definitely be the best sparkling birthday treat ever (and it'll definitely be hard to resist wearing it everyday).
Tan Su Fen, Writer: Chopard Happy Diamonds 32 mm Quartz
I unabashedly admit that my gaze is naturally drawn to the sight of metallics and sparkles. But when it comes to actually wearing them? Let's just say not everyone can pull off megawatt sparkles, which is why I love this particular Chopard Happy Diamonds model—it features the collection's signature moving diamonds in a classic round dial, a subtle touch of sparkling beauty. Complete with 18-carat rose gold against a black backdrop, it is an exquisite timepiece fit for special occasions.
