The topper was given a high-fashion reiteration on the runway last night

First introduced in the early 1900s by Irish farmers and fishermen as a protection from the rain, bucket hats have always been a function-over-fashion accessory before it blew up in the '90s. And while they have been making their resurgence as of late, we're still not entirely convinced by the trend. That is, until yesterday. As Paris Fashion Week is coming to an end soon, at Valentino's Autumn/Winter 2019 show yesterday, creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli sent down a series of couture bucket hats that elevated the trend to new heights—pun intended.

Inspired by four contemporary poets, namely Greta Bellamacina, Yrsa Daley-Ward, Mustafa the Poet, and Robert Montgomery, you can find lines of their masterpiece embroidered onto the looks, including one-liners such as "There's a forever beyond the sky I think we should go there tonight," and "You thought I was too dark until I stretched into a galaxy." And to complete the awe-inspiring ensembles, were Valentino's version of a bucket hat—narrower and taller in shape, complete with a bonnet-like wide brim that perfectly frames the face. The toppers—available in lace, floral-print, in ombré hues or adorned with fringes—add that mysterious yet romantic allure to the overall vibe.
