The 2016/17 season at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP) revealed

Are you still reeling from the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra's season finale with Brandford Marsalis earlier this month? Well, that gives you about two more months to get your heart settled again... before MPO's new season hits us in September! The 2016/17 line-up was just revealed, and it sure looks exciting—there is something for everyone. Here are our personal picks for the season ahead:

2 - 3 September 2016, A Musical Journey in Anime

You can't go wrong with some Joe Hisaishi, and with an evening filled with the renowned Japanese composer's most iconic works? You know you'll be in for a concert to remember.

9 - 11 September 2016, The Music of U2

It is hit after hit, as MPO takes the stage with a rock band fronted by singer Brody Dolyniuk to play the music by one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Conductor Brent Havens will lead the orchestra through a night of good ol' rock and roll.

8 - 9 October 2016, If Music be the Food of Love: Celebrating Shakespeare

A tribute to William Shakespeare in the 400th anniversary year of his death, the repertoire includes Mendelssohn's A midsummer Night's Dream: Overture & Wedding March and the Romeo & Juliet Overture Fantasy by Tchaikovsky.

4 - 5 November 2016, Charlie Chaplin at the Symphony

Comedy and music come together in an entertaining classical concert. Watch two timeless Chaplin comedies, Easy Street and The Immigrant, come to life on the big screen, accompanied by the orchestra playing brilliant new symphonic scores by Grant Cooper.

2 - 3 December 2016, The Nutcracker

Usher in the joyous holiday season with the MPO as they perform the classic Nutcracker ballet music by Tschaikovsky. Conductor Stanislav Kochanovsky leads the orchestra for a delightful evening of music.

31 March - 1 April 2017, Symphonic Pink Floyd

This is a another weekend for the old school rock lovers and classical music aficionados alike, as the MPO takes on the symphonic versions of songs from Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall. Rock on!
