The Spice Girls wannabe together again

In 2016, the Spice Girls celebrated the 20th anniversary of their hit single ‘Wannabe’. The song, which was their first ever single, hit the top of the charts in almost every country it was released, making the girls a household name in the ’90s. To celebrate, three of the Spice Girls—Mel B (Scary Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) and Geri Horner (Ginger Spice)—recorded a special thank you video for the fans.

Later, the trio dropped the big announcement: they wanted to throw a major concert in London’s Hyde Park in summer 2017. Unfortunately, Mel C and Victoria Beckham weren’t, and still aren’t, down for the reunion. That didn’t hinder the three of them, who rebranded as GEM, from powering forward anyway—before Geri pulled the plugs on the reunion to focus on the birth of her second child. Besides, it seemed that Mel B’s then-husband was also in the way of the reforming.

But here’s some good news for all the ’90s kids out there: now that Geri has given birth and Mel B has split from her ex, the reunion is reportedly back on. Ginger Spice confirms the news: “We’re not re-forming immediately, but in the near future.”

It looks like we can look forward to new Girl Power hits pretty soon! While that’s brewing, here’s a look back at the song that started it all:
