It’s a busy year for Sheena Liam. Following her wedding in September to multidisciplinary artist Ernest Zacharevic, the Malaysian multihyphenate is set to have her own art exhibition in Paris. Aptly named Times New Romance after her Instagram moniker which showcases her embroidered self-portraits, the account boasts a present following of 228k, and avid fans have already pledged allegiance with tattooes of her handstitched work. Sheena learned the basics of embroidery from her mother and resonated to the medium as a means of self-expression. “In a strange way modelling parallels my art in the sense I often have to use body language as means of expressing a certain sort of mood. It’s no diferent from my embroideries”, says Sheena. A body of figurative work that explores moments from her personal life, the art is based on photographs of herself as she recreates the image with needle and thread.
