Happening this weekend: Singapore River Festival 2015

Paying homage to the olden-day street performers that used to entertain the early migrants along the Singapore River, the Singapore River Festival 2015 is centred around the theme, ‘Celebrating Singapore River Stories.’ It was across the three quays that roving street performances, puppetry, storytelling and music would breathe life into the district, a sentiment that the festival hopes to revive with a modern spin this year.

From 23rd to 25th October, the Singapore River Festival 2015 will host an eclectic line up of activities, markets, art installations and live performances at Clark Quay, Boat Quay and Robertson Quay. Headlining the festival will be the Spanish theatrical group La Fura dels Baus, performing their signature ‘Human Net’ alongside 30 local volunteers, while suspended from a 220-tonne crane over the river.

There will also be a 10-day public art exhibition, Urban Artery, which will take over alleyways; the pop-up Riverside Makers Market which features local food and crafts; live performances by local bands such as Havena Social Club and The Steve McQueens who will light the streets up with blues, soul, jazz and latin; and an array of workshops that include Lomography, Acroyoga, sketching, and Parkour.
