Breaking News: Alan Rickman has passed away

The world loses yet another legend this week as Alan Rickman has also lost his battle with cancer. Aged 69, Rickman is one of Britain’s best-loved stars with iconic roles such as Professor Snape in the Harry Potter series, and Hans Gruber in Die Hard.

“The actor and director Alan Rickman has died from cancer at the age of 69. He was surrounded by family and friends,” a family statement said.

Ever since he rose to fame in 1988, Rickman’s starring roles have varied greatly, although he was best recognised by his unmistakable voice (you could tell it was him from a mile away when he voiced the Caterpillar Absalom in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland) and particularly snarky, moody characters. He was also an established director, having worked behind the award-winning 2005 play My Name is Rachel Corrie.

Rickman’s death comes just three days following the death of David Bowie, who also passed away at the age of 69 following a battle with cancer.
