Recently, we got a chance to glean what's in her beauty bag as the inspirational entrepreneur takes us through her beauty favourites this month. Find out more in the video and Q&A below:
Please tell us what your first beauty experience was like.
I grew up watching my mum apply makeup everyday before going to work, so my love for it happened naturally. But the story behind Dida was a unique one—it was totally unplanned. I was on my long overdue honeymoon trip in New York and I got really inspired from the beauty scene there at that moment. When I came back, I did a little research on the cosmetic industry and as the saying goes—the rest is history.
How do you decide what new products to be launched at DIDA? Is it based on trends, what you personally love, etc?
It's a combination of both. Dida aims to be a trendy yet practical beauty brand. When we produce a product, we will always put ourselves in our customers' shoes first. Our priority is to create a product that a consumer would love, and we make sure that the trends we pick are suitable for our market. We make a point to always engage and interact with customers through our social media platform. We try to involve them in the process by using marketing tools like polls on what products they'd like us to launch, etc.
What are some of your favourite beauty products right now?
One of it is definitely our latest Dida Soft Matte Lip Creme. It's comfortable on the lips and the colours suit most Asian skin tones. I also cannot live without the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. It's all about a flawless brow game this year. Skincare wise, I am currently hooked on The Moisturizing Cool Gel Cream by La Mer.
What are the top five beauty products we can always find in your beauty bag?
YSL Beauty Le Cushion Encre de Peau, Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer, Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, Glossier You fragrance and Dida lip products.
Who is your beauty inspiration?
I believe that beauty is skin deep. It's all about how you feel in the inside as that reflects outwards. Anyone who feels confident in their own skin is my beauty inspiration, really. But if I have to pick one I would say Cindy Crawford. I mean, can we all grow old gracefully like her please?
What are some beauty tips you've learned and would like to share with our readers?
Always have good shade of lipstick in your bag, no matter where you go. You'll be surprised how a good lip colour can change your mood. Getting enough sleep and staying hydrated are equally important too. Don't forget to pamper yourself with a really good face mask every week.
What is your night time skincare routine like?
I start with removing my makeup with gentle makeup remover wipes because it is super fast and easy. Then I wash my face with Glow Mud Cleanser by Pixi, followed by SK-II's bestselling Facial Treatment Essence—this is my holy grail product for glowing skin. Not forgetting, a good moisturiser to lock in the moisture on my skin before I tuck in.
What is the fastest way to look good in the morning especially when you are running late?
White eyeliner on the waterline absolutely does the trick. It instantly brightens up your eyes and wouldn't take more than five minutes. Add few coats of mascara, a swipe of blusher on your cheeks, along with a nude peach lipstick and you're good to go!
Tips on achieving your signature golden glow?
My secret is making sure your highlight and contour game is on point. Get yourself a good bronzer to contour your cheekbones and make sure you blend it really well. Top it off with Dida Halo Glow Highlighter and you'll be noticed from miles away.
What beauty trend do you absolutely love right now?
At the moment, I really love the draping trend. Applying blusher from your cheeks up to the area next to the eyelids gives you a very youthful appearance and I think it looks really cute.
How about a beauty trend that you are totally over with?
I would say "Instagram" brows. There was one point when everyone had overly-perfect and super bold brows and I am so over and done with that look. I feel it's all about enhancing your natural beauty and features now without looking like you're trying too hard.
If you had to live with only one beauty product, what would it be?
Definitely Dida's Velvet Matte Lip Cremes.
What is one advice you'd give to a budding entrepreneur who is keen on making it in the beauty industry?
Go for it, dream big and put your heart in whatever you set your mind to do. Celebrate little victories and remember that there is always room for improvement.
What is a personal motto that you live by?
Your only limit is your mind. If it doesn't scare you, it's not big enough.
