If you're looking at scoring some serious brownie points with mum this Mother's Day, consider a weekend getaway at the swanky Ritz Carlton KL. Staycations make a great fuss-free 'travel' option—no flight delays or lost baggage here. Just a hop and skip away from home, to an elegantly-appointed suite to call home for a couple of nights. Can't deal with unpacking? Your personal butler has that sorted, and will also shine your shoes, press your clothes, and ensure your room has fresh fruit on a daily basis.

The hotel's face-lift is evident from the moment you step into the lobby. Generous use of marble and a massive chandelier hanging overhead lend an air of grandeur, and if you're there in time for Afternoon Tea, there's a band playing jazzy tunes to have your freshly-baked scones and Ronnefeldt rooibos vanilla tea to. If mum prefers a lighter tea, try the Ritz Carlton KL blend, a refreshing green oolong tie guan yin, made exclusively for the hotel.

Offering a spread of scones, sandwiches, and handcrafted cakes and pastries by award-winning Pastry Chef Tony Hoyle, Afternoon Tea at The Lobby Lounge tastes as good as it looks, setting the mood for a leisurely weekend ahead.

If there's one thing you should do while you're at the Ritz Carlton, it's to book yourself (and mum, of course) in for a spa treatment at Spa Village, which has also been redone, its outdoor sunken tubs now replaced with a free-standing tub and rooms given a minimalist, zen décor. Pamper mum with the Rose Therapy experience, a sublime three-hour treatment that begins with a rose hair treatment. A rose petal body masque is then applied before a steam session, followed by a rose milk bath, before concluding with a full body massage.

For dinner, consider The Library, a new addition to the hotel. As its name suggests, The Library offers an extensive selection of books that cover a range of topics including fashion, art, film and architecture. Surrounded by dark wood panelling, the space is both cosy yet refined. Choose from a concise menu of either a 3- or 4-course dinner, with or without wine pairing. Especially for Mother's Day, mums will enjoy a complimentary glass of champagne.

Celebrations continue the next day at Sunday Brunch, where mum will be spoilt for choice by the delectable spread of food from different cuisines including Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Malay. There's also a seafood corner, where juicy oysters, crab and scallops abound. And for a small supplement, enjoy free flow of champagne and wines for a Mother's Day she'll remember.
