The first Muji Hotel opens in Shenzhen this month

Not a smear of branding in sight yet completely on-brand. We would expect no less from an experience living in a Muji Hotel. The first of its kind opens its doors on January 18, in the heart of the Guangdong Province of Shenzhen.

Ardent fans of the brand’s minimalist sensibilities would revel in the hotel’s interiors, which are developed and furnished by Muji. The rooms, however, go beyond providing an enjoyable stay. Rather, they also function as a test space for guests to try out the latest innovations, and inspire new ones through their feedback.

“At Muji Hotel, there are neither exorbitantly priced and superfluent services nor dreary guest rooms resulting from the extreme reduction of quality. We have arranged for you both a reasonable price space in which you will sleep well, restoring both mind and body, as well as services that naturally connect you to the locale. For our visitors, every detail, from the texture of the towels to the layout of outlets and switches, to the restaurant menus, helps form the bedrock of a successful trip.”

Housed within a multi-use facility called UpperHills, the Shenzhen project comprises of 79 rooms—each stocked with Muji’s signature stripped back products and amenities—alongside an all-day diner, a double storey Muji store, and a free, 24-hour access library with over 650 different titles on its shelves. A gym, and conference rooms with flexible layout by way of movable walls complete the building.

The Muji Hotel Shenzhen is the first of three planned properties to launch. The Beijing location is slated to open come March 2018, while Tokyo has its sights set on the spring of 2019.
