The first-ever BMW 5 Series Hybrid with eDrive Technology is now here in Malaysia

We’ve already established with the experts whether it’s truly a wise choice to buy a hybrid car in Malaysia. The BMW Group Malaysia then had particularly expressed that Malaysians are looking for vehicles that are both sporty and fuel-efficient—and they certainly have been assertive in producing a portfolio of premium Plug-In Hybrid vehicles in the country.

The latest to join this very wide portfolio is the all-new BMW 530e Sport. It’s the first-ever BMW 5 Series Hybrid with eDrive Technology and the most innovative model in its class; offering the full wealth of BMW 5 Series driver assistance systems. 

The looks

Everything about the design is meant to further empower the car’s aerodynamics but it’s the signature feature that will surely capture one’s initial attention. The air stream kidney grille is able to open and close to adapt to different situations while the Sport Line features LED headlights for both low- and high-beam, side lights, as well as daytime running lights. 

 

The numbers

Powered by the latest-generation inline 4-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo 2-litre petrol engine and BMW eDrive system’s state-of-the-art electric motor, the new BMW 530e Sport can deliver an overall system output of 252hp and 420 Nm of torque. Basically, it can sprint from 0-100km/h in 6.2 seconds. 

 

Its fuel-efficiency

While it’s able to reach a top speed of 235km/h, you won’t find your petrol tank reducing at a similarly fast pace. It consumes only 2.0 litres/100km of fuel (compare this with their most non-electric-fitted fuel-efficient model that has a combined fuel consumption of 5.1 litres/100km.) The new BMW 530e Sport also offers the best all-electric driving range in its segment—up to 48km with a maximum speed of up to 140km/h. 

The eDrive system’s three driving modes

Auto eDrive — The combustion engine and electric motor work hand in hand, allowing you to drive up to 80km/h on electric mode only. 

Max eDrive — Electric power only with a maximum speed of 140km/h. 

Battery Control — Manually engage the use of the high-voltage battery by setting the charge value to be availed for pure-electric driving later in the journey. 

 

How to charge

Charge at home via a domestic socket outlet or opt for the BMW iWallbox which reduces charge time to approximately three hours. The BMW iWallbox Plus, however, enables charging control via a smartphone app. For an even faster charging time, get the BMW i AC Fast Charging Cable which can achieve up to three times the charging speed compared to the standard one and is compatible with public charging. It comes with the registration of the ChargeNow Card online.
