5 Awesome-looking workouts we wished were here in Malaysia

As Malaysians start to become more health conscious and aim for a more active lifestyle, it will inadvertently create a wider market for clean eaters and frequent gym goers. Brands like KFit and PurelyB are such great examples (incidentally, they’re both nominated for Best Malaysian Digital Start-up or Project in our first ever Buro 24/7 Malaysia Digital Awards 2016 and you get to help vote for the winner). While it’s great that we have more interesting options as workouts – like the vibrations of BodyTone, Xtend Barre, Fly Yoga – there are even cooler-looking ones that have come into our radar. And you know what they say – the grass is always greener on the other side – but check them out below, and you’ll wish they were available in Malaysia too.

1. Pound – a workout inspired by drumming

Their tagline is: Rockout, Workout. Deemed as the world’s first cardio jam session inspired by the fun yet sweat-dripping energy of playing the drums, Pound can help you burn up to 900 (and more) calories per hour and tone your muscles into a leaner, slimmer physique. It’s a high-intensity workout but you won’t feel it because you’re not counting reps – you’re just focused on the rhythm and volume.

2. AG6 – a high-intensity class that looks like an arcade

At first glance, it looks almost like an arcade’s DDR but with the fitness bits built in for an interactive session. AG6 is circuit-based and focuses on movement and strengthening muscles as you’ll have to respond to LED light visual cues that have an unpredictable pattern. The 45-minute class, where people can burn up to 1000 calories, is only available at a fitness centre in New York City called Asphalt Green.

3. Floatfit – a HIIT workout on water

Available in the UK and Netherlands, the 30-minute workout includes burpees, lunges, squats, mountain climbers and the plank all on water. The low impact, cross training class will give you a fun full body workout with the help of a responsive exercise mat built to utilise the unpredictability of water.

4. Barre Fight++ – barre meets boxing

We’ve tried XTend Barre and kind-of-boxing (okay, Muay Thai/Kickboxing, to be exact) so imagine a workout that combines the lengthening and toning benefits of barre and the ultra fat-burning of HIIT cardio in 60 minutes. Give it a go at Salt SF the next time you hit San Francisco.

5. Neon Netfit – glow in the dark netball fitness

Over in Down Under, there’s a netball class with a twist. Filled with high energy and using a glow netball, the 45-minute session in the dark combines explosive netball movement with strength and power exercises.
