Caffeine Hunt: Hidden cafes in and around Bangsar

1. DR.Inc

Inconspicuously placed on the quiet streets of Jalan Kemuja sits DR.Inc (pronounced as Drink). The layout is simple and slightly old-timey, and we especially love the artwork on the glass entrance that greets us as we enter. Besides serving delicious and adventurous coffee like the Fat Americano (espresso with Coke), DR.Inc also earns extra brownie points from us for being wonderful supporters of local talent such as serving as a cultural gift store where you can purchase beautiful knick knacks by the local brand, Nala Designs and also hosting ‘Sunday Surprise’ meals made by local cooks.

2. Lorem Ipsum

For a quiet and serene place to get work done, you should search for this gem of a hidden cafe. Lorem Ipsum on Jalan Bangkung does not have a signboard and is recognised for being above a dental clinic on the block of shops located in the quiet housing area. One of the main highlights here are the Art Jamming sessions where guests can book 3-hour sessions to express their creativity on canvas. Art supplies will be provided by Lorem Ipsum and guests can paint to their hearts content while enjoying their cup of joe — a therapeutic activity indeed.

3. PULP by Papa Palheta

For great coffee made by passionate and experienced baristas, look out for PULP by Papa Palheta located at Jalan Riong, right by the head office of the New Straits Times Press. Brought to Malaysia by the well-known Singaporean coffee store, Papa Palheta that were the brains behind the rustic Chye Seng Huat Hardware cafe and the welcoming Loysel’s Toy cafe, customers can expect only the very best brew at this hidden establishment. Besides serving delicious coffee, PULP also aims to be a space for those interested in brewing their own perfect cup of coffee at home by providing training and coffee gadgets for sale.
