1. Kohi Yatta

kohi yatta kl

A hidden gem resides along the busy road of Sungai Besi and one that has been catching the eye of many on Instagram with its airy interior and Japanese-inspired menu. Perhaps the most unique item(s) here is the all-day breakfast menu which is served bento box-style with delectable servings of a mix between Japanese and Western dishes. But otherwise, their rice bowls get our thumbs up too while the drinks menu look too good to only pick one (they use Indonesia's Korte Chocolate, The Roast Things' coffee and Niko Neko Matcha's green tea).

Address: Lot 4, Jalan Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur (next to Mazda showroom)

2. Summersault

@smashpop

Amidst the busy shop lots of SS2 is this hidden cafe with a different take on business: "Pay as You Wish". With a cosy interior, decent coffee, delightful scones and cakes, it's an ideal spot for getting some work done, people-watching and catch-ups with friends and family.

3. COOOK

Unless you regularly take the MRT and specifically get off at the Pasar Seni station, you really wouldn't have known about this spot that's still relatively unknown on the Instagram scene. Part bookstore, part tea house and part kitchen, COOOK entirely disconnects from the hustle and bustle of KL. The cookbooks sold here are however only in Chinese but they do offer some pretty quaint tableware. Worth the adventure.

Address: Near Pasar Seni MRT station

Opening hours: 10am - 7pm, daily

4. Cafe @ Little Giraffe Library

So you know about The Zhongshan Building but a similar concept has recently popped up somewhere in Cheras. If the idea of revamping old buildings into cosy communal places is an interest of yours, add the Little Giraffe Library to your weekend to-do (or to-visit) list. At its core is a public library with a high concentration of children's books but a cafe serving beverages and desserts (including waffles!) also resides under the same roof. The popular fruit rojak from Rojak Wan's TTDI food truck has taken up shop here while good filter coffee is brewed here on the weekends.

Address: 115, Jalan 15, Balakong, 43200 Batu 9 Cheras

Opening hours: 1pm - 10pm, Tues - Sun

Phone number: 017 870 8813

5. The Mockingbird

DC Mall is fast becoming a hub for eateries (evident in our previous #BuroEats listings) and one particular spot that stands out with its tropical interior is The Mockingbird. Two things stand out from their menu: A wide selection of oat bowls and nasi campur bowls (where you can even choose between ten grain rice, brown rice, pearled barley + quinoa or couscous).

Address: L1-08, DC Mall, Bukit Damansara

Opening hours: 9am - 9.30pm, Mon - Sat

Phone number: 03 2771 9675
