In the country that’s synonymous with tea being the cure-all for both bad and good days, it comes as no surprise that afternoon tea is such a competitive scene in London that people can be spoilt for choice and the menus don’t limit themselves to just scones with cream and jam and other delectable treats that are accompanied by a plethora of tea blends.

1. Prêt-à-Portea “Fashion” Afternoon Tea at the Collins Room, The Berkeley
London’s original fashion tea is incidentally celebrating its 10th anniversary and to celebrate this amazing milestone, Pastry Chef Mourad Khiat has chosen ten of his favourite creations from the past years to be recreated as exquisite treats ranging from a Burberry classic trench coat chocolate biscuit to a Manolo Blahnik’s Hangisi quintessential stiletto ginger biscuit.
2. Art Afternoon Tea at the Mirror Room, Rosewood London
This afternoon tea is literally a work of art as Executive Pastry Chef Mark Perkins was inspired by five of the most iconic modern artists currently represented in London: Yayoi Kusama, Banksy, Damien Hirst, Alexander Calder and Mark Rothko.
3. Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea at the Sanderson
There’s no film to tie up with it but Alice in Wonderland is one of the classic themes when it comes to tea parties. To match the novel’s whimsical charm, the 5-star hotel even included vintage book-styled menus and quirky items such as marshmallow mushrooms and carrot meringue.
4. Science Afternoon Tea at The Ampersand Hotel
The Ampersand Hotel promises an afternoon tea session that is out of this world as they take inspiration from their South Kensington neighbour, The Science Museum to whip up one-of-a-kind treats such as a ‘planet mousse’ that arrives in swift clouds of dry ice and chocolate shortbread dinosaurs which have to be ‘dug out’ from its Oreo crumb ‘soil’.
