The former creative director of Dior womenswear now helms all the brands under Calvin Klein Inc.
In today's least surprising news, Raf Simons has finally be named creative director of Calvin Klein's women's and men's brands. This comes amidst rife speculation months ago that he would be appointed the position, during the same time Dior's announcement that Maria Grazia Chiuri (previously of Valentino) would helm the maison's womenswear. Simons will be in charge of all brands under Calvin Klein, including Calvin Klein Collection, Calvin Klein Jeans, Calvin Klein, Calvin Klein Underwear, Calvin Klein Platinum, and Calvin Klein Home brands.
“The arrival of Raf Simons as chief creative officer signifies a momentous new chapter for Calvin Klein. Not since Mr. Klein himself was at the company has it been led by one creative visionary, and I am confident that this decision will drive the Calvin Klein brand and have a significant impact on its future.” says CEO of Calvin Klein Inc., Steve Shiffman in a statement on the brand's social media platforms. “Raf’s exceptional contributions have shaped and modernised fashion as we see it today and, under his direction, Calvin Klein will further solidify its position as a leading global lifestyle brand.”
While we're not quite sure what to expect from the Belgium designer under the classic American brand, one thing we're certain of is that Simons' minimalistic yet edgy inclinations may be in line with Calvin Klein's brand aesthetic. There is no doubt that his debut for the brand will be the most anticipated show during New York Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2017.
