Ruth and May Bell are the twin stars of Dior’s Spring 2017 campaign

British supermodel twins Ruth and May Bell once again prove that the sister act is still trending right now in the industry, recently starring in Dior Spring 2017’s ad campaign. Previously featured in past campaigns for Burberry and Topshop, the London-born twin sisters take on Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s new concept of the brand’s femininity — celebrating the woman of today who is modern, open-minded, and sporty.

“I strive to be attentive and open to the world and to create fashion that resembles the women of today,” says Chiuri. “Fashion that corresponds to their changing needs, freed from the stereotypical categories of “masculine/feminine”, “young/not so young”, “reason/emotion”, which nonetheless also happen to be complementary aspects.”

The campaign is shot by renowned French photographer Brigitte Lacombe, recognised for her intimate portraits of celebrities including Meryl Streep, Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, and more. Spot the Bell sisters decked in juxtaposing ensembles, including embroidered tulle confections, a fencing-inspired outfit (perhaps the most obvious and recurring element from Chiuri’s feminist-leaning debut collection for Dior), accessorising with the new It bag that features the brand’s name in hardware on the front flap. A fascinating notion of this campaign is how the delicate leitmotif is a striking contrast against Ruth’s choppy, natural hairstyle, lending a contemporary aesthetic to the pared down visuals.
