Maximal minimalism

NYFW SS16: Zac Posen

A refined continuation of the classic black and white colour scheme from last year’s SS15 collection, this season saw the diffusion of navy blue and a hint of red from a strapless cocktail dress (which was strategically placed in the middle of the collection) and soles of the pointed flats.

Centred on the concept of “maximal minimalism”, silhouettes this season were softer than usual; with a mix of clean, structured silhouettes—straight cut blazers and a voluminous black gown—and gentle drapery. Following this, Posen’s classic femme fatale appeal was upheld through the seamless blend of subtle peek-a-boo slits throughout the collection.

Whether it be the use of embellished pockets or a chic three-dimensional take on plaid, the “Project Runway” judge’s attention to fine detail and texture was exhibited in a way that did not interfere with the collection’s minimalistic flair.
