NYFW SS16: Opening Ceremony

Inspired by architect Frank Llyod Wright, the collection integrated his work into their theme of “objects within a dream home”, featuring details such as fringed lattice-cut skirts and basket weave pieces straight through to the pattern on the lampshades around the venue. Creative directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim accented this focus on detailing with the incorporation of textured flowers alongside extravagant eyewear from the brand’s exclusive collaboration with Gentle Monster.

Following suit of the theatrics at the SS15 show, this season surprised us with an unexpected dance performance by a group of New York City Ballet dancers acting as models. With orchestrated falls that quickly morphed into graceful unified movements, Leon and Lim worked closely with choreographer Justin Peck (who’s work at the upcoming NYCB Fashion Gala on 30 September will feature costumes designed by the duo) to challenge the standards of fashion shows and celebrate the mistakes of life.
