Giorgio Armani‘s latest collection, called ‘Charmani’, seemed to be a lovely continuation to his soft tailored sentiments of SS16. The looks that glided down the runway echoed his show notes, delivering a “sense of elegance and sensuality, but also magic and femininity… the lightness of the body, seductively revealing itself, finding a new balance between discipline and freedom.” What this translated into was relaxed, unconstructed jackets, dreamy watercolour florals, bauble hems in shorts and dresses, fringe and fishnet elements made elegant, and closing evening looks with glamorous crystal and sequinned embroideries.
This season, Veronica Etro was inspired by the likes of Edith Sitwell and Talitha Getty. Playing out to Led Zeppelin tracks, the Etro SS17 collection bring to mind an eclectic traveller en route to adventure. The house paisley makes a return, most memorably in the opening look, starring alongside stripes for a modern, bohemian aesthetic. The luxe-boho vibes persisted in richly embroidered capes and silk dresses, while hints of athleisure shone through in bra tops and striped pants.
Tod’s theme this season was ‘Timeless Icons’; think Brigitte Bardot, Bianca Jagger, and Lauren Hutton—whose images were present in black and white photographs at the entrance of the show venue at Milan’s PAC contemporary art museum. After walking through an installation where disembodied hands and feet showcased the brand’s Gommino moccasins and Double T and Wave bags, guests proceeded to admire the collection, Tod’s first since the departure of creative director Alessandra Facchinetti. The team behind this season focused on timeless staples, with leather naturally taking centre stage in biker jackets, shift dresses and of course the house iconic shoes and bags.
Strong, sporty and sexy are the words that come to mind when one looks at the Versace SS17 collection, and trust Donatella Versace to draw a model lineup that includes Gigi Hadid, Edie Campbell, Taylor Hill, Stella Maxwell, Doutzen Kroes and OG supermodel Naomi Campbell. Turning athleticism into a strength without losing her signature underlying glamorous tones, Donatella churned out ruched dresses in jewel tones, billowing parkas injected with a healthy dose of glam, and athletic graphics and stripes on track pants, statement separates and pleated numbers.
