MFW SS16: Fausto Puglisi

Inspired by the sea and the marble intarsia of Palermo’s Baroque churches, the Sicilian designer enriched his lavish embroideries with metallic seashell embellishments, ornamenting a variety of pieces that ranged from one-sided dangling earrings to the flourishes on mini skirts and footwear, which were encrusted alongside lustrous pearls and Swarovski-crystalled bugle beads.

Whilst sustaining an eye for macro jewels, Puglisi further indulged with his enduring Grecian influence, taking cues from Ancient Greece statuary with a focus on toga-style drapery. With the adoption of silk jersey, Puglisi attained elegant column-like silhouettes that reflected the fluidity of the designs of his inspirations—Roy Halston and Madame Grès.

Alongside Puglisi’s sea and Grecian elements, the collection also infused a Texas rodeo vibe with an array of colourful silk Western shirts, as well as a trio colour combination of red, white and blue. To add to this, SS16 offered a bold assortment of pointed-toe western cowboy boots in coloured suede, printed leather and classic black encrusted with crystals and metal seashell detailing.
