London Fashion Week AW18: Highlights of Day 4

Erdem

Who: The designer took inspiration from American ’20s child star Adele Astaire (who married the son of the Duke of Devonshire, Lord Charles Cavendish). He was invited to stay at the Chatsworth House while he worked on the collection.

Where: The show venue at London’s National Portrait Gallery perfectly complements the looks from his AW18 collection.

What: Erdem will be releasing a 13-piece capsule collection with beauty brand Nars, including a lip-powder palette, a highlighter and blotting papers. The collaboration is scheduled to drop mid-April 2018.

The Low-down: The brand sent down a series of beautiful looks in its signature florals, from figure-accentuating dresses in velvet, metallic numbers, and slightly risqué pieces such as bustiers. But it was the dark, goth-like vibes that added that extra allure. Some of the models walked down the runway in retro lace long gloves, while some strutted in sheer polka-dot black veils that exuded that tinge of mystery. Dresses aside, the designer also sent down impeccably tailored coats and blazers in checks.

Buro Loves: The line-up of sequins that gave the melancholy aura that little spritz of opulence.

Christopher Kane

Who: The wife of British prime minister David Cameron, Samantha Cameron was one of the front-row guests

Where: There was a sudden evacuation at the Tate Britain Museum hours before the show, and models had to wait out in the rain while the cause of the alarm was checked.

What: The collection revolved around the theme “sex”, and according to the designer, “it’s fascinating if done in a very beautiful, provocative way”.

The Low-down: While most looks were created around the idea of the theme, there were a few pieces that were more than just that. In a colour palette of mostly black and nudes (no pun intended), erotic illustrations that were referenced from “The Joy of Sex” and “More Joy of Sex” books were spotted on different separates. The provocative subject aside, Christopher also played with different silhouettes from a juxtaposition of materials like leather and lace, in puffed up shoulder that somehow radiated a feminine finish.

Buro Loves: Another season, another ugly shoe. Following the embellished Crocs for Spring 2018 (which has sold out), this round, Christopher Kane collaborated with Z-Coil (an orthopedic footwear brand) and released its own version of the spiral-booster chunky sneakers with rainbow embellishment. If you can’t beat it, you might as well join them right?
