While admittedly I’m torn between island hopping in the Caribbean and road tripping down the Pacific Coast Highway in California or even just staying put at the Amangiri (which Su Fen has opted for), there’s something alluring about India that makes it to the top of my wishlist. Perhaps influenced in part by The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel which was filmed in Rajasthan, the incredibly romantic Taj Lake Palace would be my choice to kickstart the perfect honeymoon. To get to the opulent marble palace with its multiple turrets and domes, you’d need to hop on a boat to cross the placid Lake Pichola—sounds like something out of a Bond movie? You’re right—the hotel was featured in Octopussy.
Loh Wei Yeen, Fashion & Beauty Writer: Exploring Iceland’s Westfjords
While soaking up the sun rays and lounging by the beach are the usual go-to activities for honeymooners, I’m more enamoured with exploring the unknown, vast wilderness that is Iceland’s Westfjords with my better half. Its largely uninhabited peninsula is breathtakingly beautiful, and also is home to exquisite fauna such as the Arctic fox (gasp!). My week-long (ideally) activities will include checking out Dynjandi, Iceland’s largest waterfalls with a cumulative height of 100meters, Rauðasandur beach if it’s warm enough to swim, and even hiking up to the mother of all sea-bird cliffs, Látrabjarg to spot puffins, razorbills and all sorts of bird species here.
Rachel Au, Lifestyle Writer: Czech Republic
Usually, I would say Japan but that’s exactly it—I keep saying it that really, for a honeymoon destination, it’s no longer special enough. While some may prefer lazing it out, I think I’d rather spend my honeymoon exploring a new city and trying out new food; and Czech Republic with its galore of history, architecture and culture offers enough to pique my interest. In Prague, the capital and largest city, St. Nicholas’ Church and Charles Bridge are two of the must visit-spots with its impressive baroque style for the former and the line of amazing old statues on the bridge. Then, there’s Cesky Krumlov, a city further out from the capital that houses still Renaissance-era buildings and resembles a magical town out of a storybook. Czech Republic is also know for its array of ornate castles, some with a gorgeous backdrop of the hills, street markets, beautiful mouth-blown and decorated art glass and crystal. The list can go on but that will have to wait until I’m there.
Tan Su Fen, Editorial Assistant: Amangiri, Canyon Point, Utah
I’ve got to admit, I’ve been dreaming of Amangiri ever since I came across it while doing the research for another story last year. A week-long stay at the remote hideaway nestled within the glorious canyons of the American Southwest will be hard to beat. Can you imagine waking up to the breathtaking view of serene mesas and desert everyday? For my ideal honeymoon: days in will be spent relaxing at the spa and doing sun salutations at the yoga pavilion—stunning views included, of course—and when adventure calls, it is a mere half an hour drive to Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon, and a couple of hours away from Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park and Monument Valley. With so many wonders of nature to explore, I think we just might have to pen down a few more trips back here.
