The #squad and #squadgoals hashtags are just some of social media’s favourite hashtags at the moment. But instead of power couples and BFFs, who better to include in your fashion pack than your own twin? From designers to models, here’s a round up of a few powerful siblings in fashion—including two sets of our local ‘It’ girls. Twinning styles or not, as cheesy as it sounds, two is really better than one.
1. Lara and Mara Bawar
Not your average models, these 11-year-old twins from São Paulo, Brazil recently made waves after appearing in Swiss photographer Vinicius Terranova’s personal project, titled “Flores Raras” (which translates to rare flowers), and thanks to their unique features, they managed to create quite a buzz. Born with albinism-a genetic condition that causes the partial or complete absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes, the Bawar sisters broke beauty stereotypes by embracing their stunning looks. Recently, the twins went on to work with brands such as Nike and Insanis, and aim to take on the fashion world one step at a time. With 98k followers to date, the twins are slowly but surely making their mark in the world of modelling.
2. Ruth and May Bell
Did you know that the twins had totally different ambitions growing up? Ruth—in pixie hair wanted to be a pilot, while May aimed to be a paramedic. All that changed after they got approached by an agent while on a holiday, entered the Elite Model London competition and subsequently signed to the agency. They worked with i-D magazine and Topshop at the start of their careers, but it wasn’t until Ruth decided to shave her head that gave her the career-defining crop; there’s something about the same-but-different vibe that is ultra-intriguing. Appearing in campaigns on the runway with big fashion houses such as Burberry and Dior, Ruth and May Bell are definitely one of the ‘It’ twins of the moment.
3. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
From playing Michelle on Full House to building their own entertainment empire, many of us have been a fan of the Olsen twins since day one. Although they dabbled in fashion with clothing lines in Walmart and J.C. Penney in their teenage years, it wasn’t until they were 20 years old before they launched their own label, The Row, and Elizabeth & James (named after their younger siblings, Elizabeth and James Olsen) the following year. The duo has carved out a niche in the fashion world—both with their signature boho-chic style and the success of their brands. Even though they’re shying away from the limelight in recent years, Mary-Kate and Ashley make an exception for the Met Gala, gracing the event with notice-me-now looks every year.

4. Cherrie and Evangeline Liong
Cherrie and Evangeline, also known as Duo Gigs are making their presence known in the fashion industry locally by working with brands such as Gucci and Coach, and although both of their styles are distinctly different—Evangeline usually dressed in monochrome pieces in her raven bob while Cherrie opts to go down a more street-casual route in her signature blonde hair—their impeccable fashion tastes are apparent. This can be seen from their eye-catching appearances at fashion weeks abroad, namely Seoul Fashion Week and recently, the men’s SS’18 fashion week in Paris, getting photographed by street-style photographers on the Parisian sidewalks.

5. Rachel and Michelle Yeoh
The Malaysian twins—who are based in London—have been making waves since their debut at the 235th Queen Charlotte’s Debutante Ball (being the first set of twins at the event in history, no less). Anything but just a pretty face, besides pursuing their tertiary education in philosophy, politics and law respectively, they are also regulars in the fashion industry. From being on the advisory committee in the British Fashion Council (BFC) to walking the Dolce & Gabbana runway at its Autumn/Winter 2017 show in Milan (alongside offsprings of A-listers such as Corinne Foxx, Rafferty Law and Sofia Richie), one thing’s for sure: Rachel and Michelle are establishing themselves globally, and we can’t wait to see what lies ahead for these sisters next.
