Life in pixels and colours with Anya Hindmarch AW16
In London earlier this year, Anya Hindmarch took show-goers on a little trip down nostalgia lane with a unique (as usual) set for her AW16 presentation—it looked like something out of a video arcade machine, duly setting the tone for the retro-flecked collection.
"I'm fascinated with the debates surrounding digital design as 'art' so have started at the beginning, with early 8-bit graphics and pioneering arcade games. We've explored each design using innovative leather work techniques such as heat-fusing and leather marquetry," said Anya Hindmarch.
Remember Pac-Man and Space Invaders? Our old favourite video game characters feature heavily in the collection, with pixellated space monsters appearing on the flaps of satchels, shoes and coats. A number bound to be a favourite for more casual occasions is the Pac-Man Backpack, a cute shearling creation with a pair of googly eyes peeping through.
A new style introduced this season is the Vere, a structured satchel crafted in fine satin calf leather or python skin. It boasts a classic, versatile look, and when paired with one of the precious straps with crystal embellishments (which can be purchased separately)—it makes for a beautiful statement accessory.
There are plenty of coats this season; all long, and they all come with its own quirk, whether it be in the form of a graphic punch with rainbow Tetris-like blocks, Pac-Mans, Space Invaders, and past season's details (the Smiley face, googly eyes and the fried egg-slash-flower print), or statement collars and oversized pockets.
