One can’t help but feel a little suffocated by the traffic and crowd at mall areas on a Saturday afternoon, but once you step into the rooftop space on the sixth floor of The Gardens Mall, you’ll be mildly surprised to find an area of green tranquility. This is also where you’ll find Celest Thoi‘s new boutique (she just moved here from Publika last month), nestled in a quaint space with its neighbours Munkeat Photography and TheOccasions Eventeur—in other words, a one-stop station for all brides-to-be.
On 22 October 2016, Buro 24/7 Malaysia had the pleasure to co-host a special afternoon with Celest Thoi at this brand new space, where guests were treated to a preview of the her latest collection, Celest Thoi x Sarakichi. A collaboration with Japanese kimono fabric maker Sarakichi, the colourful new collection was a fresh deviation from the designer’s signature bridal gowns. Lighthearted and colourful, it featured pieces like embellished tops and slip dresses crafted in beautiful fabrics of different textures and patterns. There were matching shoes made with the same fabrics too.

Midway through the event, Ranjit Kaur, an 18-year breast cancer survivor and Chief Executive Officer of Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA), was invited to give a short informative talk on the disease and the importance of awareness and self-examinations. As we are still in the midst of breast cancer awareness month, little pink ribbons were prepared by the BCWA for guests to wear—a small but meaningful gesture of support for the cause.
In between viewing and trying (and for some, pre-ordering) the garments on display, guests enjoyed champagne courtesy of Moët & Chandon and canapés in a pink theme thoughtfully prepared by Celest. Craft Kitchen was also there to take us through a mini DIY session, where guests were taught to make pretty paper flowers in white or pink, giving them a little creation of their own to take home alongside a door gift from Buro 24/7 x Celest Thoi and memories of a lovely afternoon.
