Take a look at the Louis Vuitton menswear artistic director's new collection for Nikelab
It's perhaps an understatement to say that sneakers are Louis Vuitton menswear designer Kim Jones' guilty pleasure. With over "500 or 600 pairs of sneakers" in his archive and a penchant for Nike Jordans and Huaraches, Jones is particularly interested in the technology and product design that goes behind developing a pair of sneakers. And of course, how the technology spills over to fashion and thus becoming a lifestyle.
One who is constantly inspired by travelling (you can tell from his collections and campaigns for Louis Vuitton Men's), Kim Jones' latest collection for Nikelab, Packable Sport Style Collection features the new version of the 1995 Air Zoom LWP, with neon green and pink colourways inspired by the early Nike Air Max sneakers. Another standout is the reinterpretation on the classic Windrunner jacket made for the current-day jet-setter with fewer seams to make it more convenient to pack.
"It was looking at making things out of the least amount of seams so they could be lighter and smaller—really looking at the authenticity of what Nike does the best and taking the key elements and using the technology to create these products," says Jones in a news release. "The Windrunner is [made from] just one piece of fabric, so looking at how that would be cut and how that would be graded were the most challenging details."
NikeLab x Kim Jones: Packable Sport Style Collection will be available July 23 at nike.com/nikelab and select NikeLab stores.
