Yet another piece of tragic news hits us this year, as Dame Zaha Hadid passes away from a heart attack in a Miami hospital, where she was being treated for bronchitis.
Zaha Hadid Architects issued the statement: “It is with great sadness that Zaha Hadid Architects have confirmed that Dame Zaha Hadid, DBE died suddenly in Miami in the early hours of this morning. She had contracted bronchitis earlier this week and suffered a sudden heart attack while being treated in the hospital.”
Earlier this year, the famed Iraqi-born architect became the first woman to receive the Royal Institute of British Architects Gold Medal in recognition of her work. Dame Zaha’s legacy will live on in a substantial number of buildings around the world—her impressive resume of iconic creations includes the London Olympic Aquatic Centre, Italian National Museum of 21st Century Arts in Rome, the Riverside Museum at Glasgow’s Museum of Transport, and Guangzhou Opera House in China.
