Beyoncé officially joins The Lion King cast as Nala

After months of rumour that Queen Bey might be voicing Nala for the upcoming The Lion King remake, the news was finally confirmed today as Disney announces its full cast for the film. The stellar cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, James Earl Jones, who reprises his role as Mufasa from the original animated film, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar.

Talk about a dream cast. It is also worth pointing out that this casting means a duet between Beyoncé and Donald Glover a.k.a. Childish Gambino is coming our way. Be still, our hearts.

The live adaptation will be directed by Jon Favreau, who last made magic with the live-action version of The Jungle Book. According to Disney, the new film will be a “new take” on the original animated film, featuring “pioneering filmmaking techniques”.

The Lion King is set for release in summer 2019—in conjunction with the well-loved classic’s 25th anniversary.
