In remembrance of a rock legend, Tom Petty

The year claims yet another profound rocker. Widely loved as both the dynamic lead singer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as well as a solo artist, Petty leaves behind him a tremendous legacy of rock and roll.

He was also part of the 1980s supergroup The Traveling Wilburys, along with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison—all prolific singer-songwriters in their own rights. “I thought the world of Tom,” said Dylan, after learning of Petty’s passing. “He was a great performer, full of light, a friend, and I’ll never forget him.”

Despite being one of the most influential rock stars of our time, Petty was known for his humility and down-to-earth personality. He never let fame go to his head, but he kept his passion for rock music burning and dedicated his life to it. He dove headfirst into rock and roll in the 1970s, and never stopped since—Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker’s latest and final album Hypnotic Eye was released in 2014 to a number one debut on the Billboard 200 chart.

Here, we remember the rock legend with some of his most iconic songs, including ‘Free Fallin” and ‘I Won’t Back Down’:

Thank you for the music, Tom Petty. Rest in peace.
